Managing knowledge: Towards a framework for selecting and implementing a knowledge management strategy for project-based organizations in the construction industry
A Knowledge Management Strategy can help to maintain or improve a knowledge management process. There are two knowledge management strategies; personalization and codification. A personalization strategy focuses on the flow of tacit knowledge through personal contacts while in a codification strategy In codification strategies, explicit knowledge is transferred to information which can be stored in database and can be analyzed independently of the current carriers of the knowledge. Knowledge Management Strategy Conditions can help to determine which knowledge management strategy is best suited for an organization. These (ten) conditions are: Innovation, Networks, Motivation, Attitude, Organization, Community, Sharing, Frequency of repeating tasks, Willingness to follow processes and protocols and the cost-efficiency of a database.

Increasing contractor’s competitiveness at bids for Most Economically Advantageous Tenders
The award criterion ‘Most Economically Advantageous Tender’ (MEAT) is increasingly applied to award tender contracts in the Dutch infrastructural sector. Because of this, contractors are requested to develop solutions themselves instead of executing fully specified works. Therefore, new opportunities arise to become competitive. This research explores opportunities to increase the competitiveness of BAM Infra, a major Dutch constructor. Among other things, they aim to distinguish at MEAT tenders on the field of sustainability. Based upon literature addressing competitiveness in the construction sector, insights into competitive factors are derived from two strategic theories – competitive positioning theory and resource-based view – and organizational learning. In addition, these factors are supplemented with empirical findings. By means of semi-structured interviews BAM Infra’s status on competitive factors has been analyzed resulting in improvement opportunities. Based hereupon, recommendations are formulated to increase competitiveness by distinguishing more at tenders, to shape conditions that enable increased competitiveness and to improve actual processes at projects.

Policy analysis for the Dutch rail sector using System Dynamics
With a sizeable expected growth of demand for rail transport in the Netherlands the coming decades, and limited resources for expansion of the rail network, intensified utilization of the infrastructure is to be expected. To adequately manage this growth a ppropriate tools for policy analysis are needed. Because of the unstructuredness of many problems in the rail sector and decision-making in a network type environment additional scrutiny is placed on these tools. By performing a modelling study into the interrelations of modal split, mobility and operations using System Dynamics, the possibilities and pitfalls of using this method for policy analysis in Dutch rail system have been explored. Although classical policy analysis has proven to be possible, modelling the operational part of the system has proven challenging. Alternative usages of System Dynamics for enhancing policy analysis, by improving understanding about the complex dynamic behaviour of the system are suggested.
