Lindhout, J.P.F. Institution National Aerospace Laboratory NLR Date 1983-01-03 Abstract An outline is presented of a new code, called VISIAN, for the analysis of aerodynamic flows with strong viscous-inviscid interaction. The code is based on the recently developed quasi-simultsuieous method for the calculation of strongly interacting boundary layers. The feasibility of this method has already been demonstrated liy means of a number of two-dimensional model problems. The fifst application of the new code will be the calculation of quasi three-dimensional flow around an infinite swept wing under transonic conditions. Three main aspects of the code are discussed: the numerical algorithm with which the viscous and inviscid flow region are coupled; the modelling of the flow in the viscous region, especially in the regions of stong interaction; and the informatics structure of the code. The code is intended to become part of a system of aerodynamic analysis and design methods.
