New applications of radiation in medicine and industry Author Clarijs, M.C. Contributor Van Eijk, C.W.E. (promotor) Faculty Interfaculty Reactor Institute Date 2001-01-08 Abstract Since their discovery, now more than one hundred years ago, x-rays and radioactivity have been used in many applications: from medical care to process industry. We are now, however, more aware than ever of the harmful effects they can have on the human body. More sensitive detectors, better shielding of users and improvement of radiation sources are things that are constantly being worked on. The Interfacultary Reactor Institute (IRI) of TU Delft is a source of knowledge and expertise in this field. The information they provide allows researchers such as Clarijs to do leading research in his field. In his thesis, Clarijs discusses the different practical applications of radiation technology.
