Hozman, J. Date 2006-09-05 Abstract We deal with a numerical solution of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with the aid of higher order schemes. We employ a combination of the discontinuous Galerkin finite element method for the space semi-discretization and a backward difference formula for the time discretization. Moreover, using a linearization of inviscid as well as viscous fluxes and applying a suitable explicit extrapolation for nonlinear terms we have to solve only a linear algebraic problem at each time step. Then we obtain an efficient numerical scheme which is almost unconditionaly stable and has a higher degree of approximation with respect to the space and time coordinates. Several numerical examples are presented.
