Homo Urbanus consumes 75% of energy in buildings and transportation [Battle 2006]. Thus, the key to finding solutions to the effects of climate change is to be found in urban areas. This article focuses on the aerotropolis with at their core the airport. It explores how these regions can leverage the dynamics of our global economy and the development of smart utility networks to become resilient urban regions. In doing so the article gives a holistic perspective and identifies three key drivers.
