The coast offers all kinds of water sports and activities on the beach. The nice boulevards and the peacefulness of nature attract many tourists as well. At certain points, however, the coast does not satisfy the demands of the present-day tourist: The coast is difficult to reach (traffic). The product coast is getting out of date (new forms of recreation are necessary). There is lack of space for new developments. The local authority in Noordwijk is looking for a new development to improve the quality of the seaside resort. The past few years Noordwijk has primarily focused on its suitability for organizing meetings and conferences. Therefore Noordwijk as a seaside resort has lost appeal. The number of nights spent in Noordwijk decreased with 20%. The objective of this thesis is to describe the advantages and disadvantages of a marina at Noordwijk, as well as to determine the feasibility of such a project. To fulfill the objective, three alternatives are thought up. The influence of the different alternatives on the morphology of the coast is determined with the computer model UNIBEST CL+. On the basis of these influences on morphology, no decision on best alternative could be made. Other influences of a marina are more important for deciding which alternative suits best. For instance, the loss of beach, sea sight from the boulevard and noise from the marina activities also play a part in the determination of the best shape and location. Finally one alternative is chosen and designs of the breakwaters, berthing places and access road are made. The project is feasible, if one is willing to invest in facilities and buildings around the berthing basins. Facilities and buildings provide the right climate and perception. They also contribute to the financial feasibility of the project.
