In this paper, the devlopment of ultra-wideband (YWB) array-based time-domain radar sensor for near-field imaging is described. The radar sensor is designed to be used within a vehicle-mounted multisensor system for humanitarian demining. The main novelty of the radar lies in the system design with a single transmitter and multichannel receiver. Design of the UWB antenna array is also novel. The radar produces 3-D images of subsurface by 1-D mechanical scanning. Thee imaging capability of the radar is realized via electronic steering of the receive antenna footprint in a cross-scan direction and synthetic aperture processing in an along-scan direction. Imaging via footprint steering allows for drastic increase in the scanning speed.@en

A novel UWB antenna system for the high-resolution near-field radar imaging has been developed. Digital footprint focusing and steering is realized using a linear receive array. The design has been verified experimentally. It has been demonstrated that the operational frequency band starts at 170MHz and ends at 3.3GHz at -10dB level. The array's footprint at a distance of 37cm can be electronically steered along the array up to a maximal displacement of 40cm from its centre. High-resolution radar images of a scene under investigation have been produced using footprint steering.@en

In this paper, an array-based Groudn Penetrating Radar sensor to be used within a vehicle-mounted multi-sensor system for humanitarian demining is described. The radar front-end is built using time domain video impulse tefchnology. The main novelty of the radar is its antenna array, which consists of a singel transmit antenna and an array, whihc consists of a singel transmit antenna and a array of receive antennas. This approach satisfies contradictory demands of a large swath and dense measurement grid. First measurement results confirm validity of the suggested concept.@en
