Abstract
This report describes the result of a study of past and present use in fluid research of "sensing tracers" and the identification of possible new materials for, and types of, sensing tracers. An attempt has been made to identify applications and, in some cases, to estimate the performance of a particular type of tracer. For completeness a summary of forces and torques on a particle is given. Only low Reynolds number flows are considered.
