Abstract

This thesis shows the successful development of an acoustic channel model to be used for optimisation of localisation. It uses an eigenray approximation, implemented as the image source method to determine a channel impulse response. The image source method however limits the model to environments which can be reduced to cuboid shaped rooms as was the case for the test environment in consideration, the 3mE towing tank of Delft University of Technology. The channel impulse response obtained from the model is validated with an estimated channel impulse response obtained from observed data to have a high similarity.
