The Summer Introduction Programme 2015 welcomes about 1600 international students who follow an obligatory programme. Throughout a week of project work students design a water rocket and an academic poster, get familiarized with the Delft study method, and working in multicultural groups.

In our project team, Utrecht 2, we designed a water rocket based on the following design principles: larger length, hollow mid-body, and increased top weight in order to increase the rocket’s stability and trajectory pattern. Innovative solutions included a circular parachute with a 10cm diameter hole, cone shaped tip, and long fins to ensure straight trajectory. Sustainability was considered since the beginning of the project, where we shared and analysed our designs before using any materials. All parts were made only once, except the parachute, which had a total of 3 prototypes. We can say we learnt a lot form this project, the importance of cooperation between people with different cultural backgrounds, their perspectives, and how everyone brought their best to the team, often mixing the opinions of all to form the solution that would fit us all the best. Also, by exchanging various ideas, we believe this project is the best starting activity for future projects to come during our studies at TU Delft
