Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to determine which work related physical and psychosocial risk factors exist which cause neck pain and absenteeism because of neck pain. There is some evidence for a positive relationship between he duration of sedentary posture at work and neck pain, and between twisting or bending of the trunk at work and neck pain. The results described in this thesis imply that both adequate workplace design to introduce variation in the neck position and organisational changes to increase decision latitude and decrease job demands, will contribute to the prevention of sickness absence due to neck pain.
