Dr. Henk P. Benschop was born on September 19, 1939. He started his scientific career at TNO in May 1964, as an alternative for regular military duty. In 1972, he obtained his PhD on the Thesis entitled: Stereochemistry of optically active alkyl alkylphosphinates. Henk spent a postdoctoral year with Professor Halmann at the Weizmann Institute of Science at Rehovot, Israel, to perform research on the photochemistry of organophosphates. In 1997 the Board of Directors of TNO appointed him as a Senior Research Fellow, as a token of appreciation of his outstanding scientific contributions to the TNO organization. His regular full time appointment with TNO ended in October 2001, but Henk stayed at TNO as an adviser until 2008.
