The Netherlands Government has decided that in future during worldwide disasters Netherlands international rescue-teams, USAR.NL, can take part in rescue-operations. From 1-10-2003 USAR.NL will be operational. This implicates that units must be fully equipped to fulfil all necessary duties on the spot. USAR.NL can be send ro an area, where environmental conditions show enormous variations (T-air lies between -32"C and +49oC). Operations will be carried out till environmental temperatures of about -15o. Below this temperature survival of USAR.NL will be the main issue. Clothing must always be sufficient to fulfil the duties under those circumstances, besides other requirements of the clothing (e.g. fire, pollution). Besides the protection the clothing has also a role in the image of the rescue workers of USAR.NL. Based on a package of clothing on the shelf in this report, mathematical model calculations will show the implications and restrictions of working in such a large variety of environmental conditions. Also a proposal is given to use a minimal but optimal modular clothing package. Finally concept drawings of the clothing show the look of the people joining the USAR.NL teams.
