Twenty seven male patients, with Type-I diabetes mellitus were studied, all from the Outpatient Clinic of the Department of Internal Medicine, the Free University Hospital, Amsterdam. In comparison with healthy subjects and as regards age, total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels were within normal limits, although HDL-cholesterol and triglycerides concentrations were relatively high. It can be concluded that a more vegetarian like diet, physical activity, low body fat mass and low blood glucose influence blood lipid levels in diabetic patients. In this respect Type-I-diabetic patients obviously do not differ from apparently healthy people whose experimental data were used in this discussion.
