Faculty Aerospace Engineering Department Aerodynamics, Wind Energy & Propulsion Date 2014-07-20 Abstract Parameters for SGS models within the variational multiscale method for the Stokes equations are determined using two different methods. Both linear and nonlinear models are considered. Firstly, optimal parameters are found using a goal-oriented model-constrained technique minimising L2 error. Secondly, parameters are obtained using the variational Germano identity. Using the goal-oriented results as reference values, it is shown that the performance of the Germano approach is sensitive to the form of the SGS model.
