Abstract
The proposed super thermal power plant at Kayamkulam requires in its final phase 9.36 million tons of thermal coal annually. Coal for Kayamkulam power plant is proposed to be made available from Kalinga Mines at Talcher, Orissa and is planned to be transported over rail from Kalinga Mines to Paradip port and by sea tranaport of 1400 nautical miles to Kayamkulam area. Two type a of vessels have been considered, self-unloading vessels and conventional bulk carriers, and different sizes.
