Modelling statistics of storm duration to assess the reliability of dunes as flood protection: Preliminary investigation

Dune erosion during storms is a dynamical process. Failure of a dune to protect the hinterland flooding depends on the loads (sea level, wave height) and duration of these loads. This study investigates the description of the statistics of the load histories of extreme storms for load modelling on dunes.

Op 3 januari 1976 werd de Nederlandse kust getroffen door een stormvloed, waarbij op vele plaatsen langs de kust een waterstand werd bereikt, welke gemiddeld slechts één maal per 20 jaar voorkomt.
