Abstract

This report will focus on one important aspect of the transitional wave towards the future, which is the current issue of large-scale wind integration within the power system. The approach aims to illustrate the significance that international exchange can play in wind power's integration and it will be assisted by a computational tool, PowrSym3, which is a production cost simulation model capable of high levels of optimization. In order to achieve this, a relevant model of the power system seen from a high perspective will be constructed and the system's response to different levels of wind penetration will be measured mainly in terms of unused wind energy, system operating costs and emission levels.
