Abstract

A series of physical model tests was conducted in a wave flume to study the effect of dynamic rubble protection in front of a vertical bulkhead. This rubbble berm revetment was placed in front of a bulkhead with stone size such that wave action would reshape the berm into an equilibrium profile. Profiles of the berm were taken before and after the testing. The berms were classified as "safe", "intermediate" or "failed" dependend on the protection provided to the bulkhead. Regression analysis was used to determine the quantity of stone necessary to provide protection for a wide range of storm conditions. An equation was developed to quantify the reflected wave energy and thus the energy diddipation by the berm
