Abstract

Clay Solutions, a specialist in cloud-based locking systems, wants to enter the residential market, but faces a difficult challenge: people do not trust electronic locking systems as much as traditional locks and keys. Fulcrum, a new locking system, incorporates qualities of wisdom in its adaptive behavior in order to elicit trust in users and bridge the gap to residential electronic locking systems. Thanks to its connectivity and that of other everyday objects and devices, Fulcrum is able to anticipate the user’s arrival and adapt its unlocking handshake to who is coming home, when they are coming home and what they were out for. Furthermore, Fulcrum offers an integrated fallback mechanism that prevents the built-up trust from being destroyed when the user is locked out.
