(TU Delft QN/Otte Lab) Contributor Otte, A. F. (promotor) van der Zant, H.S.J. (promotor) Degree granting institution Delft University of Technology Date 2022-11-23 Abstract This thesis describes atomic spin chains subject to magnetic anisotropy. Such chains, assembled through means of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), can be home to a plethora of magnetic states and spin physics. This includes quantum tunneling of magnetization, the injection and delocalization of magnons and, for single atoms, the application of electron spin resonance (ESR). Each phenomenon happens at their own timescale which is dependent on the isolation of the spin chain from the environment, ranging from seconds to picoseconds.
