Abstract

With the purpose of evaluating the adequacy of the NLR Panel Method with respect to the prediction of the flow around 3-D configurations with mechanical high-lift devices, potential flow calculations have been carried out for a swept-wing/body combination with part-span flaps at low speed. Several configurations as well as several calculation models, differing in terms of the vortex-panel arrangement, have been considered. The results of the calculations are compared extensively with detailed experimental results obtained in the low-speed wind tunnel LST 3x2 at NLR. The .results show that regardless of the calculation model applied, at least qualitatively, the agreement between calculated and experimental results .up to pressure distribution level is generally good, except near wing and flap tips.
