Abstract
The district heating system is currently a natural monopoly. Introducing multiple producers on district heating networks could have many benefits. By developing a conceptual model that captures the technical, economic and institutional layers of the district heating system, a solid basis for a simulation model can be made. The proposed agent-based simulation model can give insight in the behaviour of stakeholders in a new district heating market that allows competition for producers of heat.
