Abstract

The Space@Sea platform is a sustainable offshore modular platform designed for a workspace at sea as an effort in coping up with the economic growth and allocating marine resources to more efficient uses. There are four potential applications of the platform: farming, transport & logistics hub, energy hub, and living spaces. In the case of the transport & logistics application, the platform is expected to be implemented as a container transhipment/storage hub operating at sea. In this thesis, a discrete event simulation model is built and used as a tool to evaluate several configurations and scenarios for the coordination between a port and the offshore modular platform in order to integrate the logistics operations on the platform to the existing port container service. The Port of Antwerp is selected for a case study.
