(promotor) Sieben, J.W. (promotor) Faculty Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering Department Transport and infrastructure Date 1979-11-14 Abstract In this thesis the homogenisation of bulk material in three types of piles is dealt with. The homogenisation implies that the fluctuations of a material proprety in the input flow of the pile are transformed into output fluctuations, whereby the latter ones are evened out. Analyses are presented concerning the transformation of the auto correlation function and the standard deviation of the fluctuations. The results are presented in graphs. Furthermore the similarity between the homogenisation in bins, divided in a number of compartments, and the homogenisation in the above piles is dealt with. Finally various types of machines for the recovery of the material from the pile are described and evaluated.
