Abstract

Thi.o.ha.lo.mo.nad.al’es N.L. fem. n. Thiohalomonas, the type genus of the order; L. fem. pl. n. suff. -ales; N.L. fem. pl. n. Thiohalomonadales, the order of the genus Thiohalomonas. The order Thiohalomonadales includes chemolithoautotrophic bacteria utilizing various reduced inorganic sulfur compounds as energy source and either oxygen or NOx as the electron acceptors. CO2 is assimilated via the Calvin–Benson–Bassham cycle. The order is a deeply branching member of the Gammaproteobacteria and currently comprises families Thiohalomonadaceae and Thiohalophilaceae. The order-level status was established by phylogenomic analysis based on 120 single-copy conserved protein markers. Type genus: Thiohalomonas Sorokin et al. 2007aVP.
