Re-shaping Urban Form and Social Relations

Abstract

Shenzhen is changing into a world city. This transformation is happening mainly within built-up areas, due to a shortage of land availability for urban expansion. This paper intends to explore new planning and design methods for urban regeneration in Shenzhen in the current context of industrial upgrading and migration, using Dalang neighborhood as an example: The strategy explored in this chapter attempts to reshape urban form and social relations by creating common interest s among stakeholder s, st r iving towards an inclusive, liveable and vital city scenar io.
