Abstract

Various aspects related to wave overtopping at seadikes were analayzed. Small and large scale model tests were performed in different facilities for various dike geometeries and wave conditions. It was suggested that wave overtopping velocities and layer thicknesses are required for the prediction of erosion and infiltration. It was also suggested that wind plays an important role for small overtopping volumes because overtopping water is transferred into spray and the loading on the landward slope and the dike crest is reduced.
