Abstract

The use of Onboard Training Systems (OTS) has been found to enhance fighter aircraft training, but they do not currently simulate the performance impact of stores on aircraft. To address this, the Performance Matched Training System (PMTS) was proposed to simulate the impact of stores in flight. PMTS aims to achieve the same performance and angle of attack (AOA) of a heavier, combat-configured aircraft on a lighter, training-configured aircraft. During virtual missions, PMTS successfully matched performance and AOA for all configurations tested while providing an engine derate and reducing fuel burn, leading to longer maintenance intervals and lower maintenance costs. While PMTS has limitations, such as a restricted scope of performance-matching parameters, it shows promise in enhancing fighter aircraft training realism and reducing training costs.
