Abstract

The auction of vintage photographs by Lempertz in 2018 revealed unseen details, including Mondrian’s hand-drawn sketches on the back of a set design picture—an unexpected discovery that prompted an article by Wietse Coppes & Leo Jansen in 2019, titled ‘The colour of black-and-white: An unknown sketch of a well-known set design.’ Initiative of reproduction by Kunstmuseum Den Haag, led to the final recreation of the original set design by Geert Coumans (Form Studies, TU Delft).
