Abstract

RECTWG is a mode-solver describing the propagation of light through rectangular dielectric optical waveguides. The mode solver is based in the approximate method that was derived by Marcatili for low-index-contrast waveguides and recently extended by Westerveld et al. for high-index-contrast waveguides. The mode-solver works in MATLAB.

You can compute the effective index (propagation constant), the effective group index (dispersion), the linear influence of external changes (e.g. temperature, cladding refractive index) and the electromagnetic fields of the modes in the waveguide. The method works for both TE-like and TM-like modes.
