Abstract

Among other applications, ultrawideband systems, specifically radar systems, are used for antipersonnel landmine detection. Usually, these systems work from some hundreds MHz till GHz such to have both deep penetration and high resolution. As in any other electronic device the antenna plays a very important role. This paper deals with the two antenna method used to completely characterize the antenna system of a stepped frequency continuous wave radar built at Inetnarional Research Centre fo Telecommunication-transmission and Radar of Delft University of Technology. The antenna system is made up of two Archmedean spiral antennas and for their characterization two loop antennas have been used.
