Abstract

This thesis examines the historic value of breakbulk warehouses for Rotterdam. It focuses on a warehouse in Merwehaven, a disused port area in Rotterdam. By showing the history of Rotterdam warehouses, redevelopments executed, and demolished warehouses a deeper understanding of warehouses for Rotterdam is given. Giving the historical context and the architectural features of the warehouse in Merwehaven and evaluating them with the assessment criteria of the Rijksdienst voor Cultureel Erfgoed determines its value for Rotterdam.
