Abstract

This report presents the results of an illustrative analysis of human-in-the-loop rendezvous and docking (RVD) performance, for the purpose of demonstrating the practicality of applying human engineering methods and techniques, introduced in Part I of this project, to the analysis of control loops with human operators in space operations. Section I gives a description of the RVD space segment and the related autonomous operations. Section 2 gives model analyses of RVD performance in the final approach phase, for the case in which the human operator is involved in manual control of RVD and for the case in which the human operator is monitoring an automated RVD for the occurrence of failures.
