Abstract

The academic literature on PSS recently identified fundamental bottlenecks blocking widespread use of them in planning practice: a lack of communication between the developers and the potential users. Other academic fields (knowledge management and technological innovation) have recognized similar bottlenecks years ago. This article proposes a process architecture for PSS development, based on methods generated in those fields. The method is applied to a case in Amsterdam. The Am-sterdam Department of Transport wanted to transform their transport model into a PSS, to support the integration of land use and transport planning. This paper pre-sents the considerations that used in the design process of the development of this PSS. It describes the products from this case so far and reflects on the interactive method used. Although the project is not finished, the results seem promising.
