Abstract
More people are eating alone at home, yet these meals are often experienced as rushed tasks accompanied by digital distraction. This thesis explores how design can make solo meals more intentional and restorative without relying on external stimulation. Research into solitude and solo eating informed a set of design requirements that led to HOLD: a tableware system composed of an unstable support, a plate, and cutlery. HOLD encourages continuous physical contact to support presence and calm.
