Abstract
In this review the preparation and properties of fluoroethers are discussed with particular reference to the relationship between their structure and chemical reactivity and thermal stability. The preparation and properties of known fluoroether polymers are also considered, but there is a striking lack of quantitative data on their thermal stability. However, from the trends shown by model fluoroethers, conclusions have been drawn regarding the most favourable structural features for fluoroether polymers. The added possibility that ether oxygen might confer some elastomeric behaviour on certain fluoroether polymers makes the field an attractive one for study.
