Abstract

The Project constitutes of the design of a parasite building inside the former church of Santa Maria Paganica in L’Aquila (IT). After the earthquake of the 6th of April 2009 the city of L’Aquila is experiencing difficulties to proceed with the works of reconstruction and after almost eight years from that event the majority of the city is still shored up with just few area of it are rebuilt. The project aims to create an alternative to the traditional reconstruction of public buildings and churches trough the design of a parasite intervention inside a former church. The parasite intervention, containing public function such as : praying chapel, multifunctional spaces, bar, restaurant, open air theatre and panoramic viewport wants to be the starting point for the re-birth of this historical city centre and for the reappropriation of it by the former inhabitants .
