Abstract

This paper investigates jointly CRB-optimal array-waveform pairs for active sensing with multiple targets and provides new insights into their structure. We first demonstrate that coherent beamforming, though suboptimal, achieves near-optimal performance. Building on this insight, we develop an iterative sensor relocation algorithm that converges to a locally optimal array configuration. The resulting geometries exhibit intuitive physical patterns and deliver significant performance gains compared to random and canonical designs.
