The family is a member of the order Thiohalomonadales in the Gammaproteobacteria and consists of a single genus Thiohalophilus. The family-level classification in the order Thiohalomonadales was established by phylogenomic analysis according to the Genome Taxonomy DataBase method. DNA G +C content: 57.4 (genome of the type strain). Type genus: Thiohalophilus Sorokin et al. 2007, VL117.
