Abstract
ZVS, quasi-ZCS topologies utilise a specific current waveform which demands specific properties from IGBT power modules. This paper compares the performance of three selected IGBT types under zero-voltage-switching, quasi-zero-current-switching. The main criterion of the evaluation is the generated power loss. The investigated IGBTs are implemented in a 50kW test converter for power loss measurements. The power loss is evaluated for turn-on, on-state and turn-off time intervals and for different load conditions. The investigation identifies strong and weak points of the compared IGBTs and selects a type which is the most suitable for ZVS, quasi-ZCS applications. The paper is concluded by presenting the practical efficiency measurements on the converter prototype with "the best" IGBT implemented.
