 Abstract

An investigation of the rebound of a high speed piston from the closed end of a tube was undertaken, through an experimental model study and subsequent analysis . Paying particular attention ta the peak pressures produced , measurements were compared with a simplified formula which was developed from theoretical considerations , to allow the peak pressure ta be determined from driving pressure, piston mass, maximum piston velocity and initial conditions in the barrel. In addition, the motion of the piston following the compression peak was studied, and correlated with a rough analysis.
