Corporate name TU Delft Date 1982-06-01 Abstract Siderurgia Nacional EP has planned to construct an ore terminal nearby Seixal (Portugal) and to dredge an access channel and turning basin in the southern part of the Tagus Inner Estuary. In the Hydronamic report, entitled Terminal do Seixal, Hydro-Morphological Study, February 1982/ P457' the hydraulical, nautical and morphological consequences have been dealt with for a 12m and 14m access channel. This additional report presents the modelling results of hydraulical and morphological computations concerning a layout of a 12 m access channel with adjacent reclamations, originated from channel dredging. This study includes the following parts: -flow simulation with the Tagus Inner-- Estuary model in order to determine the boundary conditions for the Siderurgia channel model; layout: 12 m access channel + 2 reclamations tide Mean Spring Tide. flow simulation with the Siderurgia Channel model for the above bathymetry and tide; these results form the indispensable basis for the prediction of morphological changes. prediction of siltation in access channel and turning basin after 1st year of operation. As regards the flow computations, it has been found that the 2 reclamations exhibit an important flow regulating function. When comparing these results to the results of the previous study it can be shown that the maximum flow intensities along the channel and basin are reduced. From a nautical point of view it can be stated that this will improve the ship manoeuvrability, especially in the turning basin. The morphological impact from the above is that the total amount of maintenance dredging is also dimished. This can be illustrated by the following figures of an optimistic prediction of siltation, based upon a dry bulk density of 530 kg/cum as expected for the channel siltation.
