Institution National Aerospace Laboratory NLR Date 1989-06-27 Abstract Experimental methods for the determination of field distributions in opaque liquids are explained under the headings: Acoustics, Electromagnetics and Radiographic Methods. The status of promising techniques for velocity measurements is reported. The localisation of tracer particles is a basic strategy for most implementations. Instruments for direct measurement of liquid velocity in opaque liquid find only limited application. In general, field mappings require extensive data sets and detailed modelling of physical processes. Both contribute to the extraction of relevant field information. The types of models have been outlined.
