Architecture and the Built Environment

Abstract

The Future Bank is a reconstruction project, designed for the existing building of the National Bank of Belgium. However, it is also an act of exploration into the potential of built capital, regardless “good” or “bad”, to be transformed to communicate contemporary ideas and to represent different values than the ones which were at play at the time of its inauguration. Thus, through this project I try to understand and utilize the power, embedded in existing architecture, to link past, present and future in a discourse of questioning, challenging and change.
