Jones, L.R. Institution National Research Council Canada, Division of Mechanical Engineering Date 1973-04-30 Abstract An expression is derived to calculate the directivity of the far field sound pressure levels radiated from an annular duct based on Tyler and Sofrin's approach for a circular duet. Both radial and circumferential variations in the acoustic pressure field inside the duct are considered in the derivation. A computer programme to calculate the generation, propagation and far field radiation of tones from a single stage ducted fan is described. Some illustrative examples are worked out to show the effect of hub/tip ratio on the far field directivity. Computed results for the cases considered in Tyler and Sofrin 's paper are in close agreement.
