This contribution addresses the environmental pressure of overconsumption by upcycling textiles and redistributing them back into the German economy. Out of the Fabric creates a space for local designers to purchase the upcycled textiles from the storage facility and exhibit to the public. The new depot shifts the fashion industry’s perception of the value in excessive consumption towards a trend in secondary use and longevity of textiles. The depot rehabilitates its surrounding neighborhood of Friedrichshain by improving the condition of existing warehouses, encouraging the growth of Berlin designers, and introducing fashion textiles as an economic source for the community. The network of supply based throughout the city will ensure that recyclable materials can be always available.
