Institution National Aerospace Laboratory NLR Date 1968-05-31 Abstract The chromic acid and the sulfuric acid anodic coatings have been compared with respect to their effect on the endurance of mildly notched 2024-T3 Alclad specimens in programme tests based on a gust spectrum and in some constant-load amplitude tests. Factors studied were: anodizing-tooling sequence, sealing and painting, presence of cracks in the anodic coating and post treatment equivalent to the "Redux" adhesive curing cycle. In general the chromic acid anodized specimens proved to be superior.
