Conference paper (2019) - Adrianus de Hoop, Ioan Lager
The properties of transient waves along electrical transmission lines are investigated. In particular, the excitation of the waves by impressed voltage and electric current sources is studied. Specific choices of this excitation are shown to lead to 'one-sided transmission' only. Furthermore, the reflection and transmission at a localized line fault/defect is studied. An illustrative time-domain reflectometry experiment is discussed. ...
Journal article (2018) - Martin Stumpf, Adrianus de Hoop
A full analytic time-domain analysis is presented for a canonical problem of electromagnetic interference related to the operation of integrated-circuit devices at optical frequencies, where metal screens and substrates can no longer be characterized as perfect electrical conductors, but the plasmonic behavior of conduction electrons in the metal has to be taken into account. ...
Conference paper (2015) - Adrianus T. de Hoop, Ion E. Lager
Signal integrity in the far-field radiation from pulse-train excited array antennas is studied via full timedomain instruments. The disturbance in the received signal is related to the fidelity factor. At any point in our analysis, the disturbance is evaluated based on a reduced, well defined set of parameters: pulse parameters and pulse repetition rate – temporal dependence, and elementary radiator location – spatial dependence. Their effect is examined by means of illustrative numerical experiments. These results are expedient for enhancing the detectability of the signals radiated by pulse-train excited array antennas, as needed in wireless digital transfer. ...
Journal article (2015) - Ion E. Lager, Adrianus T. de Hoop
A full time-domain analysis is presented of the radiation properties of array antennas composed of identical, mutually translationally shifted, pulsed electric-current excited elements. An expression is derived for the radiated field in the farfield region, the parameters in which provide the basis for studying the pulsed-field beam-shaping and beam-steering properties of the array. Mutual coupling is neglected. Computational results illustrate the influence of the different parameters. ...
