Master thesis (2025) - J.J. Groothuijs, M. Melles, M.K. Chmarra
This thesis focuses on the development of an end effector for a robotic system that aims to improve CT-guided core needle biopsies. This is a procedure, performed by interventional radiologists, used to diagnose lung cancer. The procedure involves using a co-axial needle to extract tissue samples from a suspected tumor inside the lungs for laboratory analysis.

This project was initiated by Syntric Medical, who had several questions that needed answering for the end effector of their robotic system. The aim of the project was to advance the prototype by reducing ambiguity on the three priority areas: Usability & workflow, Safety & Sterility and Technology & Integration.
